May 12, 2025, the Flower Moon, because so many flowers bloom at this time. Use the full moon energy for healing, drawing down the moon, hosting a bonfire, dancing around the maypole.
Altar
Add Spring flowers, flower crowns or wreaths to your altar. If you want a head start on making your own flower crowns, you can purchase a kit, a book, or watch a YouTube video about making flower crowns. Candles are a great addition for any fire inspired ritual. The dollar store is a fine starting place to look for inexpensive candles. For Beltane, think spring green (growth, abundance, fertility), blue (communication, inspiration), yellow (focus, joy), red (energy, strength, passion), purple (wisdom, influence). These colors can also be used for any other altar decorations or offerings like crystals, seeds, forsythia, violets, lily of the valley, primrose, and hawthorn.
Craft
Make a Maypole or a wreath. May especially calls for fresh flowers and greenery. This YouTube video gives instructions for making a spring wreath with fresh flowers but you could use dried or artificial. You can always put wreaths or flower crowns at the top of your Maypole(s). I tend to favor handmade, natural source crafts for my ritual crafts, but you do you. Another springtime craft that you might want to complete before spring planting season is to make your own plant markers.
I love these homemade plant markers but there are hundreds of other ideas online for making or buying them. If you want just the blank wooden pieces for these plant markers, you can get them on Amazon for about $1 each. The previous link to Gardens that Matter includes instructions on sealing them if you create your own. (Hint: Use outdoor ModPodge.)
Fill and charge spell bottles. Use color [crystals: red (ruby, spinel, red tourmaline, red topaz), yellow (citrine, quartz, fluorite), green (peridot, aventurine, malachite), blue (aquamarine, topaz, kyanite) and spring flowers (dried), attract love, growth, good health, honor the joining of the god and goddess (think sex).
Spirit Guide
Choose any spirit guide that calls to you. I tend to attract animals – bulls, hummingbirds, baby animals, any sexy beast you prefer.

It’s an old Wiccan tradition (here’s a drawing down the moon ritual. There are countless others.) It’s also the name of a book by Margot Adler (audio book – also available in print). It also happens to be the first book I ever read about Wicca in the start of my Pagan path and hence the inspiration for the name of this blog. The book was originally published in 1979 but is still in print. It’s a little dry but an excellent resource that really influenced my thinking.
